Strong Women in Strange Company
November 1, 2012 - November 25, 2012
Studios Atrium
Strong Women in Strange Company features Lena Rushing's distinctive portrayals of strong, striking women shrouded in unnerving subtext. The protagonist in each painting is often in the company of animals and other symbols of her predicament. Rushing's cathartic narratives are constructed from personal experience and the dark undercurrent that interrupts them.
Like their creator, Rushing's work is honest and intensely authentic. Vibrant and intriguing they marry figurative expressionism and surrealism, encouraging the viewer to engage in art-related dialogue.
