Kids Art Smart
Studios on the Park discovered a calling in the form of the Kids Art Smart Program.
What began as an experiment resulting from a one-time grant from the Central Coast Wine Classic has developed into the heart and soul of our efforts to share the creative process with our community. Many other generous donors and volunteers enabled us to to present the program in Spring & Fall 2011 and Spring & Fall 2012. To date, more than 3,000 public elementary students have visited Studios on the Park for hands-on professional art classes completely free of charge. They have studied and created works of art in mediums such as marbilizing, watercolor, collage, ceramics, and printmaking.
Ordinarily, these students (47% of whom are considered low-income and at-risk) receive no formal arts education. The result is a lost opportunity to develop creative thinking and personal expression. Kids Art Smart changes this. We are currently fundraising to ensure that students from Pat Butler and Virginia Peterson elementary schools can experience the joy of art in Fall 2013.
