A native to Paso Robles, California, Matthew Winn Canaday cultivates his artistic passion through ironwork and design. In 1999 at the age of nineteen Matt spent four years as apprentice to iron masters Bob Bentley and Russel Windbiel, through that Matt has embraced his dream of making a living as an artist in multi-metal sculpture and architectural ironwork. The birth of his company, Canaday Designs, Inc. began in 2004 and has presented many opportunities to create products that are both functional and artistic. In commissioned work the relationships that are created between Matt and his customers are essential to bringing forth the personality of the artwork. Matt has often stated that ‘environments must communicate in unison, every aspect of space affects the other.’ With this premise, and skilled hands Matt forges into the realms of creativity ever demonstrating the power of tenacity and the gift of expression.
